Shihan Tomohiro Mori (Black belt 7th Dan), an esteemed instructor from the Hombu Dojo in Japan, visited Sri Lanka to conduct a special 2-day Aikido seminar on the 21st and 22nd of March 2025. This event was organized by the Sri Lanka Aikido Association - Sri Lanka Aikikai and held at our new practice location at the Colombo Judo Association "Judojo".

As ever, we are extremely grateful to the Hombu Dojo in Japan for their continued support of the SLAA - SLA. These regular seminars, conducted by visiting high-level Aikido teachers like Shihan Mori have helped improve both the skills of our practitioners and the capacity of our organization.
The 2-day seminar was attended by SLAA's Aikidoka of all ages from our 4 dojos. Notable amongst these was the participation of many young Aikidoka from our kids classes for some of the sessions. it was wonderful to see how Shihan Mori adapted techniques and his training methods for these young children. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Shihan Mori for sharing his knowledge with us.
Another notable feature of this seminar was the participation of a contingent from the UAE Aikikai with whom the SLAA - SLA continues to maintain close ties. We are very grateful to our friends from the UAE who attended this seminar.

The seminar was concluded with a sayonara party attended by many participants and members of the SLAA as well as some well wishers.

Visitor's trip
The next day, senior members of the SLAA as well as Shihan Mori and our attendees from the UAE Aikikai, took a trip to the historical city of Galle in the south of Sri Lanka for a day out, to see some of the beauty and experience the extraordinary food and culture of Sri Lanka. This included a morning spent visiting an ancient temple, hanging out on a beautiful beach, a delicious lunch overlooking the Galle bay and a delightful evening at the colonial Galle Fort in the company of Shenjei from Galle Fort Walks. The day was capped off by dinner and drinks at another Galle institution, the Sydney Hotel, which has been serving customers for over a 100 years! We hope our guests had an enjoyable time and left with great memories of a great seminar and a country full of beauty, culture and good friends. We hope to see you all back again next year!
